Moneymaker's disciples study poker at online casino
12 Oct 2006
When Chris moneymaker, a 27 year old accountant from Atlanta, Georgia, won the World Series of Poker in 2003 after winning his seat at an online casino beforehand, he took with him a hefty price of 2.5 million dollars and instant fame. This fame proved to be infectious for many of the viewers of the televised tournament. They believed that if Moneymaker, who was not a professional poker player before and had played mainly at online casino websites before he joined the World Series, could win the prize, anyone could. They had a chance. And many were not lazy taking it.
Like these men, let's call him O., who logged on to the internet right after the tournament, joined an online casino and started studying the game of poker at the site. Playing regularly with other online poker fans, he slowly improved and, just like Moneymaker, won a place at a Las Vegas Poker Tournament through his online casino. Here the similarities end, though. O. held up alright, being amongst the better quarter of the players, but didn't walk home with a prize.
He's not discouraged though. Playing poker at an online casino got him hooked and he loves it and he says at least he met some of his online casino poker heroes in person at the tournament, and enjoyed the whole buzz. O. is still playing at various online casino websites, and waiting for his next chance to get the big break. But until then, the journey is prize enough.
